Members of the business community gathered in Gary’s Miller section for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome Promet Energy, one of the first African-American owned and operated, full service energy management providers in the market.  Hosted by the Gary Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and Promet CEO Greg White addressed the crowd.  "We welcome Promet with open arms and are extremely glad they’re here," said Freeman-Wilson. "They are taking the lead in bringing business here which means more jobs and economic growth for our city."  Freeman-Wilson also praised White for the company’s desire to start a mentoring program for Gary’s youth. 

"The city of Gary has been so easy to work with and the Chamber made us feel welcome from the very first day," said White. "It is our intent to grow here and stay in Gary for a very, very long time."  Eddie Melton, Vice-President of the Gary Chamber of Commerce, was on hand to greet Promet representatives.  "The Chamber is excited that Promet has decided to make Gary their new home," said Melton. "We will continue to work with the Mayor and her team to help bring new businesses into the city." In its first eight years of existence, Promet Energy exceeded the $100 million mark in annual sales through superior service to Local Distribution Companies (LDCs), large commercial/industrial. Arcelor Mittal is one of their many clients.
