Where in Valparaiso is the giant Santa? The city reports you can find the Vintage Santa Claus again this year at Foundation Meadows on Campbell. The twenty-foot-tall fiberglass Santa statue was recently put together for the holiday season by Public Works crews. The Valparaiso Now Facebook page says the Valpo Santa is thought to be one of just thirteen fiberglass Santas created in the 1940s and brought over from Germany. The posting also says Santa must be anchored with large guide wires which take more space than available downtown, and must be driven into earth; not concrete. Also, Foundation Meadows was chosen last year because it is an official collection site for Toys for Tots... and that having Santa there helped to make last year a record year for toy collections. Foundation Meadows is a collection site for new, unwrapped toys again this year.
