Portage Police Chief Troy Williams says the two homicides in the last two months that the city has recently experienced is very concerning, but assures residents that officers will continue to make sure they are safe. Chief Williams says the message from the beginning of the year to keep residents informed of both the “good and bad” has not changed, as methods such as Facebook to inform Portage residents was used Monday, when 38 year old Wilson Rivera of Indianapolis, formerly of Gary, was shot and killed. Williams says the degree of solving this case will be difficult, but as with the case of the 72 year old Portage man who whose death is believed to be a contract killing, police will continue to work tirelessly to put the suspected killer behind bars.
