The Valparaiso City Council last night reports say voted six-to-one in favor of rezoning 118-acres on the east side of the city for a development that would include a business park and what's been described as a luxury apartment complex. A number of residents in the area opposed to the project are being represented by an attorney. The property is north of Evans, south of Vale Park Road, east of State Road 49 and west of Bartz Road. Today's Times reports Councilman Joey Larr was the lone vote against, saying it didn't fit with the neighborhood. The developer, Don Weiss, owner of Wiseway Supermarkets, which he recently announced were being purchased by Strack and Van Til, is quoted in the Times as saying the development will fit in well with the community and will be built to high-quality standards.
