WOMAN SAYS SHE WILL NOT GIVE CANDY TO THE OBESE

A North Dakota woman plans to hand out letters instead of Halloween candy to trick-or-treaters she considers to be "moderately obese." The Fargo woman's letter, which quickly spread via social media after she announced her intentions, is addressed to the parents of the trick-or-treaters who received it and informs the parents that their children appear to be "moderately obese." The letter urges parents not to feed children candy and to guide the youngsters toward a healthier lifestyle. The woman said she wants the city's children to be healthier. "I just want to send a message to the parents of kids that are really overweight...I think it's just really irresponsible of parents to send them out looking for free candy just 'cause all the other kids are doing it," said the woman, who gave her name as Cheryl. "I'm contributing to their health problems and really, their kids are everybody's kids. It's a whole village." Dr. Katie Gordon, assistant professor of Clinical Psychology at North Dakota State University, said such a letter could do more harm than good.

MAN CHARGED WITH DUI AFTER DRUNK DRIVING HIS LAWN MOWER ON A BEER RUN TO THE STORE

A Maine man faces drunk driving charges after allegedly using his riding lawn mower to make a beer run. Police say convenience store employees turned away 51-year-old Tony Caulder when he came to Cummings Market in Kennebunk on October 19 because they thought he was drunk. The employees followed the man outside to make sure he wasn't getting into a car and called police when he rode off on the lawn mower. He had earlier been seen pumping gas into his lawnmower on the forecourt. Police charged him with operating under the influence after stopping him a short time later.  The 51-year-old was released on bail the next day and is scheduled to make a court appearance in January.  Under Maine law, riding a lawnmower on a public road is illegal but as Caulder's type of machine is defined as a motor vehicle, officers issued a DUI.

WORLD RUNNING SHORT ON WINE

A worldwide wine shortage? Technically speaking, it's already happened. And what's more, things are on track to get worse. Stats compiled by Morgan Stanley Research show that the world fell 300 million cases short of demand last year, the biggest in-the-red number in half a century. The problem is rather simple despite the scale: Everyone is drinking more—especially the US and China—even as production is dropping.

BOB BARKER TO RETURN TO “PRICE IS RIGHT” FOR HIS 90TH BIRTHDAY

Come on down, Bob Barker! The retired "Price Is Right" host is returning to the popular game show on Dec. 12 in celebration of his 90th birthday, the show confirmed on its Twitter account. Barker, who hosted the show for 35 years starting in 1972, stepped down in 2007, when comedian Drew Carey took over.  Barker has since returned to the show once, in 2009, to promote his book "Priceless Memories." The special episode celebrating Barker will be taped on Nov. 5, according to the show's website. "The Price Is Right" airs weekdays on CBS.

OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN SEQUEL

Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman have signed on for a sequel to surprise box office hit Olympus Has Fallen. The thriller about a terrorist attack on the White House was a big hit at the global box office earlier this year, and the film's three stars are reteaming for a follow-up, set overseas. However, director Antoine Fuqua won't be back for London Has Fallen.

BRITNEY SPEARS HITS USED BY UK NAVY TO SCARE SOMALI PIRATES

Britney Spears hits are being used by the UK's Royal Navy to scare off Somali pirates. The singer’s hits “Oops! I Did It Again” and “Baby One More Time” have proved the most effective deterrent on supertankers off the east coast of Africa. "Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most," merchant navy officer Rachel Owens said. "These guys can't stand Western culture or music, making Britney's hits perfect."
