12-YEAR-OLD GIRL TALKS ABOUT BEING ATTACKED BY A BEAR

As 12-year-old Abby Wetherell headed toward home from an evening jog on her grandfather's woodsy property in northern Michigan, a terrifying sight caught her eye: a black bear was chasing her. The bear knocked the girl down twice and lashed one of her thighs with its powerful paws as she screamed for help, then played dead. Her father and a neighbor scared the animal away, and Abby was flown to a hospital, where she was doing well after surgery. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources set traps in the area of the Thursday night attack in Wexford County's Haring Township, just north of Cadillac, and asked the public to be on the lookout.

OBAMA HAS A NEW DOG

There's a new dog living in the White House.  President Obama's Twitter account announced yesterday that Sunny, a new puppy, had joined the Obama family.  Thus, Sunny Obama was introduced to the world.  The first anyone outside of the presidential inner circle heard of Sunny was via the tweet sent to Obama's over 35 million followers.  This announcement was simple and to the point:  "Welcome to the family, Sunny."

HULK HOGAN WANTS CHRIS HEMSWORTH TO STAR IN BIOPIC MOVIE

Hulk Hogan has said he wants Chris Hemsworth to play him in an upcoming movie about his life and career.  Hogan revealed that two upcoming Hollywood writers are penning the biopic and have already "nailed" a four-page outline "like they were living in my shoes." Speaking to the Cape Breton Post, Hogan played down the notion that his son Nick could play him and instead suggested Hemsworth as an alternative.  "I think we need a serious, serious actor that knows what he's doing," he said.  "You know who I thought would be good?  That guy that did that action movie, Thor."

STUDENT SINKS A HALF-COURT SHOT TO WIN FREE TUITION ON DAY ONE

Sometimes an opportunity comes along and you just have to take a shot.  And just one day into the new school year, that's exactly what Indiana freshman Markus Burden did.  During a “Welcome Week” event for Ball State University students, the 18-year-old from Frankfort, Illinois managed to rise to the challenge and sank a basketball from the half-way line.  His efforts paid off and his shot won him free tuition for his spring semester. GHOSTBUSTERS FIREHOUSE WOULD BE WORTH $16 MILLION

The Ghostbuster's iconic headquarters, a firehouse located in New York City's Tribeca neighborhood, has been valued at nearly $16 million.  According to the Movoto Real Estate blog’s fictional property evaluations, the movie's 9,642.55square-foot firehouse would be worth at least $15,717,356.50 in today's market.  Its fictional size and real life location at 14 North Moore Street, as well as how much comparable properties in the Tribeca area cost today, were all taken into account.

BUDWEISER IS MOST POPULAR BEER AMONG INJURED ER PATIENTS

Many people who end their Friday or Saturday nights in a hospital emergency room have been drinking alcohol.  Public health experts estimate that about one-third of all injury-related ER visits involved alcohol consumption.  But what, exactly, are people drinking?  When the Hopkins researchers surveyed ER patients who’d been drinking, they found that Budweiser was the number one brand consumed, followed Steel Reserve Malt Liquor, Colt 45 malt liquor, Bud Ice (another malt liquor), Bud Light, and a discount-priced vodka called Barton’s.

SEATTLE COPS TO HAND OUT DORITOS TO POT LOVERS AT HEMPFEST

Marijuana is now legal in Washington state, so Seattle cops won't be issuing tickets during the 2013 Hempfest.  Instead, the police will join in the fun and hand out Doritos.  This summer marks the 22nd annual Hempfest "protestival" in Seattle, but it's the first since Washington voters legalized marijuana in Nov. 2012.  While the police have typically been tolerant of pot smokers during the event in the past, this is the first year that even ceremonial tickets (a common practice in Seattle at counter-cultural events) can be ignored.
