George Strait Receives Sportsman Lifetime Achievement Award
George Strait is often hailed as the King of Country Music, but he spends just as much time thinking about land conservation as he does singing songs.
That's why Park Cities Quail is giving George the T. Boone Pickens Lifetime Sportsman Awards this Thursday in Dallas.
George was selected for the honor thanks to his work managing the wildlife habitats on his ranches in Texas.
He's worked with a wildlife biologist for years now to create healthy environments for the animals on his properties.
Strait also manages the deer population on his ranches and mostly just hunts for "the ugliest buck he can remove from the herd."

Tammy Wynette's Daughters Campaign To Have Mom's Stage Name Back On Tombstone
Tammy Wynette's daughters are campaigning to have their late mom's stage moniker put back on her tombstone after it was changed to her married name of Virginia W. Richardson in 2012. Wynette died in 1998, but two years ago, the inscription on her tombstone at Nashville's Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum in Tennessee was altered at the request of some of her family members. The name currently on her crypt is in honor of her husband at the time of her death, George Richey, whose birth name was Richardson. However, Wynette's four daughters, including country singer Georgette Jones Lennon, have now called upon fans to join a Facebook group called A Restoration – Tammy Wynette's Name and Legacy, in order to show support for their efforts. In an interview with local newspaper The Tennessean, Lennon explains, "We're hoping that we can go to court and be able to ask for her name to be returned back to the way that it should be. Mom worked so long for her fans and her family and for that name. She was very proud of what she accomplished and we know that so many people appreciate her and her music and we just want to be able to restore thing the way they should be."

Members of the pacific salmon family, the chinook or king salmon and the coho salmon can be found in Lake Michigan and its tributaries in northern Indiana. Pacific salmons do not feed during spawning, but will strike a lure during their runs. Cohos will spawn in the fall in their third year of life and die, while chinooks will spawn in the fall, winter or spring in the fifth year of life, allowing them to grow larger. The teeth of the coho salmon are set in light color gums. The coho salmon has black spots on the upper lobe of a slightly forked caudal fin with 12-15 anal fin rays.
Bait: Spawn sacs
Depth: Just off the bottom
Several limits of coho salmon were caught by anglers this past week fishing the lower reaches of Trail Cr. The top producing bait was spawn sacs fished just off the bottom. Coho were averaging 16 inches.
Rainbow or steelhead trout
Ever popular among Indiana anglers is the trout family, which includes the brown, lake and rainbow or steelhead trout. Many fisherman can be spotted on the shores during spawning season when the trout begin their runs into the tributaries. Rainbow or steelhead trout have a white mouth, teeth and gums and small black spots on their backs, sides, and caudal and dorsal fins. The caudal fin margin of the rainbow or steelhead trout is square and the fish has 9-12 anal fin rays.
Bait: Spawn sacs, small jigs tipped with a waxworm or two
Depth: Deepest holes
Despite the 32° F water temps in Indiana's tribs to LM, anglers braving the elements have been rewarded with decent catches of STT over the past couple of weeks. Anglers fishing Trail Cr report the majority of the action is occurring in the middle/ upper reaches, but over the last week, the lower reaches started to produce. Over on the western creeks, anglers have caught a few in the lower portions of the E Br Little Cal. Salt Cr anglers have stated that fishing has been slow due to shelf ice. As for baits, spawns sacs fished in the deepest/ slowest pools have provided the most consistent action. Small jigs tipped with a waxworm or two have also produced fish in the creeks.
