In Northwest Indiana, Community Healthcare System says it will be known as Powers Health starting July 1, 2024. “This new name marks a strategic evolution, uniting the brand under one clear and distinct identity,” the healthcare system announced. A news release said the new name is not the result of a merger or acquisition but is a rebranding that honors Donald S. Powers, one of the original directors and president of Community Foundation, which became Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana, Inc., in 2001, parent company of Community Healthcare System. The announcement noted numerous healthcare systems including some in Indiana use the word Community. The hospital names — Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine in East Chicago, and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart — will stay the same, the healthcare system said; Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center in Crown Point will become Powers Health Rehabilitation Center, and Community Care Network will become Powers Health Medical Group.
