The National Weather Service Chicago says strong southwest winds and low relative humidity this afternoon Monday March 11, 2024, will result in an elevated fire danger in northwest Indiana and northeast Illinois. A Special Weather Statement this morning also said, “Any grass or brush fires that ignite will likely become difficult to control” and meteorologists urge everyone to exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning or open flames and with the disposal of smoking materials.
