This is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana, March 10-16, 2024. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) encourages all families, schools and workplaces to make tornado safety plans. The statewide tornado drill is 9:15 am Central/ 10:15 a.m. Eastern Time Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Throughout the week, IDHS says it will share severe weather safety tips on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram. “We experience severe weather frequently, but we cannot overlook how we prepare for these storms. Check in with your family members, make sure they know what to do and when to do it if a storm approaches,” said IDHS Emergency Management and Preparedness Director Mary Moran. From the Porter County Emergency Management Agency: On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Porter County will be participating in the National Weather Service Statewide Tornado Siren Test. This is being held in conjunction with Severe Weather Preparedness Week, which runs from March 10-16, 2024. The Porter County weather sirens will be sounded at 9:15 a.m. Businesses and schools are encouraged to review their tornado and severe storm plans during this week and ensure their organizations have an understanding of the contents.
