In Porter County, Indiana Dunes National Park says Portage Lakefront Pavilion is temporarily closed for renovations. The interior of the pavilion is getting a fresh coat of paint, a news release said, new flooring will be installed, and cabinets will be built in the classroom area. The closure will continue through March 31st, the park said; access to the beach, trails, and breakwater will remain available to the public during the work. The pavilion, which opened in October 2008, is a Gold LEED certified building. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a program of the U.S. Green Building Council. Indiana Dunes National Park says the public facilities were designed and developed to minimize their impact on the reclaimed landscape.
