In Hobart, the public is invited to a memorial ceremony this Friday, March 29, 2024, at 5 pm, remembering fallen military personnel. The Hobart Marine Corps League will hold their quarterly memorial service during which the names of soldiers killed in combat the past quarter of the year are read aloud. The names of deceased veterans from the past three months will be read along with branch of service and their home state while a brass bell rings for each veteran. The ceremony is held at the Doughboy Statue at 7th and Main Street in Hobart. The local chapter says they have 30 names to read this Friday and they have been holding a downtown Hobart prayer service at the statue for over 20 years. Doughboy was a term used to describe U.S. infantrymen of the American Expeditionary Force during World War I.
