The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County invites the community to help celebrate International Compost Awareness Week May 5-May 10, 2025, with free loading of compost and mulch at the Valparaiso and Portage Compost Sites for Porter County residents. “This annual event is a fantastic opportunity for Porter County residents to enrich their gardens and landscapes while contributing to a more sustainable environment,” the district said in a news release. The Valparaiso compost site is on West Lincolnway, and at the Portage Compost site is one U.S. Highway 12. There are some restrictions, more details here. “This event is a perfect way to celebrate the benefits of composting, which include reducing waste, conserving water, and enhancing soil health. By participating, you are not only improving your garden but also supporting a greener and more sustainable community,” the district added.
