In Valparaiso, the city is offering a New Neighbor City Services guide for new or returning residents. “The new neighbor guide is designed to help residents access services like water and trash pick-up, but also to share what makes Valpo special – like our parks, transit system, public art and opportunities for engagement,” said Maggie Clifton, Valparaiso’s community engagement director and creator of the guide.
“Welcoming new residents or a new neighbor to your block is a unique opportunity to introduce ourselves. We want to help residents feel familiar and invite them to be an active part of our community,” said Mayor Jon Costas who included a welcome letter in the guide. “We’re so pleased to be a growing community, a place where people want to live, to do business and to call home,” he said. The digital guide, available online, introduces Valparaiso’s services, provides a map of neighborhoods and shares city highlights.
In creating the New Neighbor Guide, the City of Valparaiso says it consulted with neighborhood groups as well as with the real estate community about what they are interested in knowing about the community. The feedback helped to shape content, including a handy quick links page connecting residents to city departments, pathways maps, city calendars, educational opportunities and more.
The New Neighbor City Services Guide will be distributed to new residents and those relocating within the city via a postcard with a link to access the digital guide. It is also available online at tinyurl.com/WelcomeValpo or on the Community Engagement page at Valpo.us .
