In Lake County, the Purdue Master Gardener Program says it is seeking a new crop of volunteers. A Purdue Extension Master Gardener Basic Training Course will be offered for residents of Lake County, Indiana, and surrounding areas, a news release said. The course provides knowledge on a wide variety of topics and in turn, participants volunteer, representing Purdue University. That can include staffing information booths at gardening events, mentoring other gardeners, or maintaining demonstration gardens, for example. The training will be on Fridays August 15, 2025, to December 5, 2025, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Central Time, at the Purdue Extension-Lake County Office on North Main Street in Crown Point; deadline to apply is July 1, 2025. Interested garden enthusiasts can contact Rena Wielgus at Purdue Extension-Lake County via email or call (219) 755-3240 to learn more about the course and to apply.
