Lake Station-New Chicago Library Closed for Smoke Remediation

In Lake County, the Lake Station-New Chicago library branch on Central Avenue is closed until further notice for smoke remediation, the library said. Officials say Monday morning July 14, 2025, before the building was open to the public, a small fire occurred at the Lake Station-New Chicago Branch and was quickly contained and extinguished thanks to the quick actions of the police department, fire department, and library maintenance staff, however the building and collection suffered smoke damage. Updates will be posted at the Lake County Public Library website. Patrons are asked to return items to another Lake County Public Library branch while Lake Station-New Chicago is closed.
