In Lake County, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says phase three of pavement patching work on Interstate 65 between 93rd Avenue and Central Avenue begins next week, which will then be in place through late August. There will first be an overnight lane closure on Thursday, July 24, 2025, near 61st Avenue. Crews will be closing off the crossover just north of 61st Avenue that was previously being used before the work zone was extended south, INDOT said. Overnight lane closures will then be conducted Monday, July 28, 2025, to move traffic into phase three construction for pavement patching activities between just south of U.S. 30 to Ridge Road. Overnight restrictions will take place during the hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. but are weather dependent so schedules are subject to change.
In phase three, northbound I-65 will continue to have the left lane as a counterflow lane on the southbound side. Motorists in the counterflow lane will not have access to the U.S. 30, 61st Avenue or Ridge Road interchanges, a news release said. The other two lanes will be on the inside left shoulder and lane of the northbound side, with the work zone on the right. Southbound I-65 will remain in its current configuration where traffic is shifted to the right.
The ramps from 61st Avenue eastbound and westbound to I-65 northbound will close during the overnight lane closures scheduled for July 28, 2025, and will remain closed through the duration of phase three. The ramps from U.S. 30 eastbound and westbound to I-65 northbound will temporarily close during the overnight lane closures and will reopen the following morning, July 29, 2025.
INDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time when driving through this area and follow traffic directions carefully.
