In Lake County, Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) says one of the first test trains rolled along the new Monon Corridor this week, from Hammond Gateway to the new Munster/Dyer Station. A social media post by the South Shore Line said the test train which ran Monday and Tuesday July 28 and July 29, 2025 “helped evaluate platform and bridge clearances, signal visibility, radio communications, and more”, marking “a huge milestone on the path to expanded service”, the commuter line said. The West Lake Corridor project extends the commuter rail about eight miles south along the western edge of Lake County. Here’s a link for more information.
