In La Porte, La Porte Community School Corporation has announced Martin Briggs has been named one of three finalists for 2026 Indiana Teacher of the Year. The Indiana Department of Education delivered the news through a surprise classroom visit to Crichfield Elementary School Thursday afternoon September 4, 2025. Briggs, who has dedicated 47 years to educating Laporte students, has advanced from seven finalists to the final three. “We are incredibly proud of Mr. Briggs and this well-deserved recognition as a top three finalist for Indiana Teacher of the Year. His decades of service to our students and community exemplify the very best of our profession,” said Superintendent Sandra Wood. “Marty’s innovative teaching methods, his commitment to hands-on learning, and his impact on generations of students make him a true ambassador for education. This honor not only celebrates his exceptional career but also reflects the quality and dedication of all our educators throughout the district. We wish him the very best as he represents La Porte Community School Corporation in Indianapolis.” Briggs will travel to Indianapolis next week for the final portion of the selection process.
