Ahead of the winter-heating season, Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) says open enrollment is underway for additional energy assistance programs to help income-eligible customers pay their gas utility bills; eligible customers may apply for additional NIPSCO Energy Assistance Programs as of October 1, 2025. Available programs include NIPSCO Hardship, SERV -Supply Energy Resources to Veterans, and SILVER – Seniors in Indiana Low-Income and Vulnerable Energy Resources. Eligible customers can apply through May 31, 2026, or until funds are exhausted, the Merrillville-based utility company said. It takes about 30 days to process the applications. Those who meet the requirements could see a one-time credit applied to their residential gas account. Customers experiencing financial difficulties are encouraged to visit NIPSCO’s website or call NIPSCO’s Customer Care Center as soon as possible to find out more about payment options and these and other programs available.
