In Valparaiso, the Valparaiso Police Department, Porter County Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police—working in cooperation with Valparaiso Community Schools— say they’re participating in a week-long Stop Arm Violation Awareness Campaign the week of October 20-24, 2025. Police say the initiative is meant to educate drivers on the risks of illegally passing a school bus while its stop arm is extended, a violation that officials say endangers the lives of children entering and exiting the bus. October 20 through October 24th is School Bus Safety Week. Officials say law enforcement officers will be increasing their presence around school bus routes throughout the week, focusing on both enforcement and education.
