In Crown Point, the city says it unveiled its new skate park to hundreds of eager skaters on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. While the city broke ground on the project just over a year ago in October 2024, the new park was years in the making, said Crown Point Mayor Pete Land. “The current skate park has been here a number of years. It has served our City very well. It served everybody who has used it very well, but we knew that after a lot of blood, sweat and tears and trying to maintain it, it was time to let it retire,” Land said. “In 2022, the City team began to map out our vision for the community. We wanted a vision and drive to develop and build some really good, new quality-of-life amenities for our community and our citizens.” The new park, located on the south side of the 95-acre Sportsplex campus near the Sparta Dome, features a 14,500-square-foot skateable area, three street-style lanes, a 5,000 square-foot flow bowl, a peanut pool, lighting and a pedestrian entrance from the expanded Veterans Memorial Trail along U.S. 231. Parks Director Jennie Burgess said thousands of hours went into bringing the skate park to life, noting the park’s features were guided by the local skating community. The new park is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. In 2023, the City of Crown Point received a $2.81 million grant from the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation to help fund the new skate park, as well as a revitalized Sauerman Woods Park, which re-opened to the community in August. “Let me tell you, it was only because we were the recipients of this grant that this skate park and the Sauerman Park were able to become realities,” Land said. “I personally, as a mayor and as a citizen of Crown Point, I can’t thank them enough for their commitment they always have and continue to show our City.”
