In Michigan City, the Barker Mansion says it has broken ground on the future Barker Depot Museum, and it will include a 1902 Nickel Plate Road freight car that was built nearby. A news release says the historic railcar was originally built in Michigan City by the Haskell & Barker Car Company, which operated on Wabash Street. The inclusion of the railcar in the museum’s collection will highlight the “vital role Michigan City played in America’s railroad history,” the announcement said.
