In Gary, students, alumni, and faculty gathered in October to celebrate the Indiana University Northwest (IUN) School of Nursing’s 60th anniversary. The first Associate of Science in Nursing class began studies in 1965, with 18 students in the first graduating class two years later, the university said. Milestones over the six decades include adding a bachelor’s degree in the 80s, master’s options, online programs, and more. “Nursing students at IU Northwest are engaged and visible in the communities we serve,” said former Director of the School of Nursing and Associate/Interim Dean of the College of Health and Human Services Linda Delunas. “Our graduates, for the most part, remain in Northwest Indiana to practice, serving in very critical roles.” IUN says there have been well over 5,000 graduates who have directly contributed to the health of Northwest Indiana, and that more than 90% of IU Northwest’s School of Nursing graduates remain in the Region. The School of Nursing is now housed in the Dunes Medical/Professional Building on the campus of IU Northwest. Here is a link to read more about the recent event.
