In northwest Indiana, the operators of the South Shore Line say a new website page on what had been referred to as the West Lake Corridor Project is now live. The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) says the eight-mile extension of the commuter line along the western edge of Lake County is now the Monon Corridor and the new line from Hammond south to the Munster/Dyer border is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2026. According to a list of Frequently Asked Questions at the new website, the new name pays homage to the former Monon Railroad line in Indiana, which ran between Hammond and Dyer for nearly a century starting in the 1880s. Here is a link to the Monon Corridor website page at the South Shore Line website – https://mysouthshoreline.com/riders/monon-corridor-101/ .
