In Porter County, construction is underway on the new Liberty Township fire station and government office. Township leaders broke ground on the $4.5 million project in October. Officials say the new fire station for the Volunteer Fire Department replaces a 70-year-old facility, improving emergency response capabilities and enhancing operational safety.
The fire department says the new building is designed to meet the needs of modern fire apparatus and includes apparatus bays designed for improved response, sleeping quarters, a meeting/training room, administrative space, and updated infrastructure, within a total footprint of about 15,200 square feet. The project also includes dedicated space for township government operations, helping ensure accessibility for residents.
“Today we build for tomorrow — a new fire station ready to protect and serve for generations to come, said Matt Keiser, Liberty Township Trustee. The excitement is real as we strengthen safety for every resident who calls our community home.” Anticipated completion date is October 2026.
“This groundbreaking ceremony marks a major milestone for fire and emergency response,” said Nicholas Wineland, Corporation President, Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department. “For over 70 years, a fire station built entirely by the firefighters and residents will not be forgotten but will transition onto a new foundation behind the current building.”
