The National Weather Service Chicago says northwest Indiana didn’t see as much system snow from a massive winter storm that impacted states across the central and eastern U.S. this past weekend (January 24-26, 2026) – and other parts of Indiana, especially central and southern counties – but the Region did see lake enhanced snowfall. A recap at the National Weather Service Chicago website said “notable lake enhancement of the fluffy snowfall totals” were seen in northwest Indiana, especially closer to Lake Michigan and the northern half of Porter County. Some of the highest reported total snowfall totals locally included 9 inches in Valparaiso and 8.1 inches in Hobart.
