In Lake County, Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) says trains have been making frequent test runs on the new Monon Corridor. On Monday (January 26 2026), the South Shore Line commuter rail also said at their West Lake Corridor Project Facebook page that Revenue Service is currently set to begin before March 30, 2026, on the new route that travels along the western edge of Lake County, from Hammond to Munster/Dyer. The Monon Corridor, formerly known as the West Lake Corridor Project, is an eight-mile southern extension of the South Shore Line. There are four stations – Hammond Gateway near Gostlin and Sheffield, South Hammond near 173rd and Lyman, Munster Ridge near Ridge Road and Manor Avenue, and Munster/ Dyer near Main Street. The project broke ground in October 2020. Here is a link for more details – https://mysouthshoreline.com/riders/monon-corridor-101/ .
