In Valparaiso, the Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County’s Northwest Indiana Earth Day Celebration is Saturday April 18, 2026, 9am to 1 pm, at the Porter County Expo Center. The district says over 2,000 people attend every year. The event includes an opportunity to shred old documents for free with Secure Shred in the parking lot. Attendees can also help local nonprofits by checking the Reuse Fair Wishlists at the recycling district’s Facebook page and website – donations will only be collected between 9-and -11:30 am. The event is free to the public and will include a variety of vendors, birdhouse building, bike donation, and more. Plus, this year the district expanded its Fix-It Fair dates to offer one during the Earth Day Celebration, but attendees must register online in advance at the Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction District’s website to have an item repaired; walk-ins will not be accepted.
