The American Red Cross says it is urgently trying to locate homeowners and renters in Merrillville and surrounding communities whose homes were heavily damaged or destroyed during the recent severe weather event. A news release said financial assistance may be available to eligible individuals and families, however the Red Cross says it has been unable to reach many of those affected and wants to ensure everyone has the opportunity to receive available assistance.
“If your home or apartment sustained major damage or was destroyed, please get in touch with the American Red Cross as soon as possible: 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767),” the announcement said.
The American Red Cross also asked that the information be shared with family, friends, neighbors, community groups, churches, and local organizations. “Your share may help connect someone in need with critical assistance.
“If you know someone who experienced significant damage but may not be active on social media, please encourage them to call the Red Cross immediately. Together, we can help ensure everyone affected has the opportunity to receive the assistance they need,” the Red Cross said.
