The National Weather Service Chicago says some areas saw 4 to 6 inches of rain as a fall-like low pressure system brought periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms to northeast Illinois and northern Indiana Friday afternoon (July 31 2026) through Saturday evening (August 1 2026). Local totals included 4.27 inches in Hammond, 3.60 at Munster-Little Calumet River, and almost 2.43 in the town of Porter, and 2.39 inches near Portage.
