In Porter County, Shirley Heinze Land Trust invites the public to participate in art activities and guided hikes at a free, all-ages event through their Nature in the Arts program. The event, “Nature’s Story: Told Through Trees,” will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Meadowbrook Nature Preserve. Attendees will discover the stories hidden within trees as they learn how tree rings reveal years of growth, changing seasons, and the history of each tree. Guests are also invited to join guided tree identification hikes through the preserve led by Shirley Heinze Land Trust staff and volunteers.
