Governor Mike Braun was in northwest Indiana Wednesday Aug 12 2026 assessing damage from Tuesday’s storms. He’s directed state agencies to work around the clock alongside local officials, first responders, and utility crews to get resources where they’re needed. Indiana’s State Emergency Operations Center elevated its activation to Level 3 Wednesday (Aug 12 2026) to support the ongoing response and coordinate state resources with impacted communities. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is leading the response, and they’re coordinating with local officials and response partners to address needs created by the outages. The American Red Cross stands ready to establish shelters, cooling centers, and charging stations as needed. Hoosiers without power are encouraged to take precautions against the heat and use available cooling centers if needed. Cooling centers can be found here .
“Between storm damage, widespread power outages and flooding, hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers have been impacted across the state,” said Governor Braun. “I’ve directed our agencies to work around the clock alongside local officials, first responders and utility crews to get resources where they’re needed. As storms continue today, our teams are ready, resources are in place and we will continue responding to needs as they arise.” Governor Braun was joined by Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard Larry Muennich, Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott, and Indiana Department of Homeland Security Executive Director Jonathan Whitham to meet with local officials and first responders and receive an update on storm damage, power outages and ongoing response efforts.
