Region residents are invited to step into summer with the “Path to Wellness” walking event, a free community program designed to promote physical activity, mental well-being, and nutritional awareness. Organized by Franciscan Health and the Lake County Indiana Health Department, the series kicks off on Friday, June 20, 2025, and will take place Fridays through August 15, 2025, at Oak Ridge Prairie Park in Griffith, Indiana. (Note: There will be no walk on July 4th.)
The sessions will run from 9 AM to 10:30 AM, and each will begin with an informative talk on a wellness-related topic, followed by a light warm-up stretch, and then a walk amidst the natural beauty of Oak Ridge Prairie Park, the announcement said.
The program will also include:
• Preventative health screenings on the first and last day of the program
• Mindfulness strategies offering tips and tricks to help reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance overall well-being
• Nutrition education and how diet affects overall health
• Discussions on personal safety
• Chronic disease information and discussions
Attendees are encouraged to register to help organizers prepare adequate refreshments. Water and a light snack will be provided at each session. Participants are reminded to wear comfortable shoes to make the most of their walk. Here is a link to the Lake County Health Department website for more information.
