In Crown Point, the Hub City recently unveiled a first-of-its-kind Mobile Sensory Hub in Northwest Indiana. The 300 square-foot mobile trailer designed for large-scale events in Crown Point and Northwest Indiana is meant to provide a calming environment for individuals who may experience sensory overload, PTSD and other stressors during public events. It launched in Summer 2025 by Crown Point Fire Capt. Matt Kodicek and PACE (Parks – Athletics – Cyber – Entertainment) Director Adam Graper The hub includes various calming activities for children and adults, including a soundproof quiet room; interactive smart board; headphones; and fidget and tactile toys. The unit also has air conditioning and heating, allowing it to be used all year round. A news release says the project started with an anonymous monetary donation and the Crown Point Public Works and Crown Point Fire have spent more than 600 hours on the unit. The city says it received the trailer from the Valparaiso Fire Department and the MAAC Foundation. Here’s a link to the City of Crown Point’s website for more details.
