In Gary, the city says a ceremonial groundbreaking hosted by Mayor Eddie Melton is planned for the new FedEx distribution center on Thursday, October 22, 2025 at 1:30 PM. The city in a release said the $60 million project is expected to create approximately 600 jobs. The new 317,000-square-foot facility will be next to Gary/Chicago International Airport.
“This is more than just a groundbreaking; it’s a testament to the fact that major corporations are seeing what we see in Gary—a city with immense potential and a dedicated workforce,” said Mayor Melton. “Attracting a global leader like FedEx is a powerful signal that we are building a new economic foundation. This project is about creating real opportunities and a brighter future for the people of our city.”
