In Indiana, state lawmakers would like to see a second entrance created for Indiana Dunes State Park. They recently sent a letter requesting an additional entrance to the park, saying it will improve safety for visitors and reduce congestion. The lawmakers also say it will boost local economies and tourism along the Lake Michigan shore. The letter said in Fiscal Year 2024 the park saw a record number of visitors, over 1.99 million, which brings new challenges for access not only for guests but also emergency services. Officials said the proposed entrance would cross a railroad track and utilize Tremont Road off U.S. 12 a short distance east of the park entrance on State Road 49 in Porter County.
