In Lake County, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says construction is set to begin in Spring 2026 on a three-year project to improve traffic flow and safety along Indiana’s busiest interstate corridor. 80/94 FlexRoad is an Indiana Department of Transportation project, in coordination with the Illinois Department of Transportation, along the Borman Expressway from I-65 to the 80-94 / 394 interchange just past the state line in Cook County, Illinois. Work will include fiber optic upgrades, concrete pavement restoration, and drainage improvements. Four lanes will be open in both directions most of the time, and a minimum of two lanes open both directions during overnight work, INDOT said. The project will implement new digital message signs and traffic management strategies like variable speed limits, dynamic lane control and shoulder lanes, and queue warning to warn drivers of slowed or stopped traffic ahead.
