In Indianapolis, Audubon members and conservation experts gathered at the Indiana Statehouse Tuesday February 17, 2026, to hear from Indiana Governor Mike Braun and meet with lawmakers raising awareness about the threats facing Indiana’s birds – like habitat loss – and highlighting opportunities to protect natural resources. The state-endangered Marsh Wren needs wetlands to thrive, and Henslow’s Sparrow relies on Indiana grasslands, Audubon said. Audubon Great Lakes monitors marsh birds and says it is working to restore 420 acres of wetlands in Northwest Indiana, including along the West Branch of the Little Calumet River in Gary.
