In La Porte, the La Porte County Master Gardener Association is hosting a special event featuring a nationally-known author of several books, including “Bringing Nature Home” and “The Nature of Oaks. “A Morning with Doug Tallamy – Saving Nature in Your Yard” is March 28, 2026, at the La Porte Civic Auditorium, on why planting native plants in your yard is important to nature and the environment. Registration for the free event is online. It’s also an opportunity to visit with 17 environmental exhibitors covering native plant sources and organizations. “Please join us for this special opportunity to hear from one of the leading voices in conservation and learn how you can make a meaningful difference for the environment—starting in your own backyard,” the La Porte County Master Gardener Association said.
Doors will open at 9:00 a.m., giving attendees the opportunity to explore 17 informational tables featuring representatives from a wide range of groups, businesses, and organizations dedicated to education and community engagement. While there will be no sales, guests can connect directly with experts and advocates from Master Gardener Associations, native plant sources, consultation/design/restoration professionals, native plant societies, local government entities, environmental organizations, and botanic gardens. In addition, the first 750 attendees will receive complimentary gift bags generously provided by the La Porte County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
