In the Michigan City area, Indiana Dunes National Park says the Mount Baldy Access Site will be closed from late March through mid-June 2026 while the National Park Service carries out a sand management and shoreline stabilization project. The park says over time, windblown sand has buried portions of Mount Baldy’s parking area and sanitary infrastructure and the work this spring will help protect those facilities and maintain long term visitor access to the popular site. A news release said crews will move about 40,000 cubic yards of sand from and nearby the buried parking area and relocate it to Crescent Beach, where it will support shoreline/beach nourishment efforts in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Officials said no natural dune habitat or archaeological resources will be disturbed during this project.
