The South Shore Line says ongoing construction in downtown Chicago begins a new phase of the expansion project that will be affecting weekday train operations in the area of Millennium and Van Buren Street stations beginning September 14, 2026. This phase is expected to continue into the second quarter of 2027. The commuter rail said temporary service impacts to weekday service will include potential train delays and also limited train capacity as track construction will significantly limit available train storage at Millennium Station. The work is part of the approximately $650 million South Shore Line service expansion program the commuter line said and includes track realignments, infrastructure improvements, and upgrades to the overhead catenary system that provides electrical power to trains.
