In Gary, officials say a groundbreaking ceremony was recently held for Phase 1 of the Veterans Housing Project in Veterans Village. The city says the milestone development lays the foundation for five new single-family homes, along with a community clubhouse and play area designed to serve as a neighborhood anchor. “With approximately 3,166 civilian veterans calling Gary home, this development underscores our unwavering commitment to honoring those who have served,” said Gary Chief of Operations Michael Suggs during the ceremony. “Through powerful partnerships, we are taking an incredible step forward today.” The national initiative is made possible through foundational support from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Capital Bank, securing up to $1 million in funding to support veterans in achieving single-family homeownership.
